BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe, M8 Coupe launched in India ;Prices start from 1.29 crore

The BMW 8 Series is a range of grand tourers produced by BMW.The 8 Series was first introduced in 1990, but it was later discontinued in 1999 due to poor sales.The model range was later reintroduced in 2018 with the second generation, G15 8 Series,which is now launched in India.

Price & Variants :

The 8 Series is offered in India as an 840i Gran Coupe and 840i Gran Coupe M-Sport Edition. The standard model is priced at Rs 1.29 crore while the M-Sport model is priced at Rs 1.55 crore. The performance model which comes in the form as the M8 two-door coupe is priced at Rs 2.15 crore(ex-showroom).

Power & Specifications :

BMW 840i Gran Coupe and 840i Gran Coupe M Sport Edition come with a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder petrol engine that makes 335 bhp and 500 Nm. BMW M8 Coupe, on the other hand, is powered by a 4.4-litre V-8 petrol unit that puts out 591 bhp and 750 Nm of peak torque.

Both these engines are coupled to eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission with paddle shifters. BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe as well as M8 Coupe get M Sport Differential and adaptive suspension but M8 Coupe also comes with M Setup which allows driver to tweak engine, suspension, steering, and brakes settings.Using the Driving Experience Control, the driver is able to choose between different driving modes to suit the driving conditions (Comfort, Sport, Sport+).

  • BMW 840i Gran Coupe M Sport: 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds
  • BMW M8 Coupe: 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds

Design :

The hexagonal kidney grille with M typical double slats draw attention to itself including large air intakes, numerous creases on the bonnet and along the sides, and wrap-around LED tail lights.These elements, along with Coupe roofline, sleek LED headlamps, flared wheel arches, and sport exhaust system make 8 Series Gran Coupe and M8 Coupe look their part of performance-oriented machines.


As compared to standard 840i Gran Coupe, the 840i M Sport Edition gets BMW lazer lights, larger air intakes, especially designed side skirts and rear apron with diffuser, and different style for the alloy wheels.

Bringing out the sporty character is a range of new metallic paints - Brands Hatch Grey, Sonic Speed Blue, Marina Bay Blue, Donington Grey, Barcelona Blue and Motegi Red.

Both 8 Series Gran Coupe and M8 Coupe get a 12.3-inch virtual cockpit, 10.25-inch infotainment system with iDrive interface that recognizes gestures, head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay, dynamic cruise control system, 14-way powered front seats, panoramic sunroof (not available on M8 Coupe), four zone climate control system, ambient lighting, etc.

Safety features :

Safety features on these cars include six airbags, attentiveness assistance, dynamic stability control, traction control system, parking assistant, surround view cameras, cornering brake control, etc.
