BS6-compliant vehicles to come with a green sticker from October 2020

The 1 cm green strip will be placed at the top of the third registration sticker, which is affixed on the inner side of a vehicle's windshield.

The BS6 emission norms came into effect from April 1, 2020.

Major Highlights:

  • The third registration sticker has colour coding on the basis of the vehicle's fuel type.
  • The vehicles sold from April 1, 2019, are mandatorily fitted with tamper-proof HSRPs.
  • The HSRP set-up includes two registration plates and the third registration sticker.

The vehicles sold from April 1, 2019, are mandatorily fitted with tamper-proof HSRPs (High Security Registration Plates). As the name suggests, these plates have several security features and are protected against counterfeiting. They are fastened with non-removable snap lock fitting system. The HSRPs have a chromium-based hologram hot stamped on the top left corner. Besides, there is laser-branding of a permanent identification number on the bottom left corner of the registration plates.

The HSRP set-up includes two registration plates, to be placed at the front and rear of the vehicle, and the third registration sticker, which is affixed on the inner side of a vehicle's windshield and has registration details. Now, the 1 cm green strip will be placed at the top of the third registration sticker.

The third registration sticker has colour coding on the basis of the vehicle's fuel type. It is light blue in the case of petrol or CNG cars and orange for diesel ones.
